Fibre routers (GPON): the connection to your fibre line
A GPON ONT is the device that receives fibre into the building and turns it into a regular network connection. Some models do that bare (bridge), others also have Wi-Fi and telephony on board.
How to choose?
- Wi-Fi generation — from a bare bridge ONT with no Wi-Fi to built-in Wi-Fi 5, 6 or 7; pick Wi-Fi on board if you don't want a separate router or access points.
- Bridge or routing — a bridge ONT passes the connection through untouched to your own router or firewall; a routing ONT handles DHCP, NAT and Wi-Fi itself.
- Extra connections — check the number of LAN ports and whether you need a phone line (POTS) or coax for TV (CATV).
